What We Cover

Four types of analysis in every issue

01

Sector-level quantitative data

Housing, energy, agriculture, healthcare, banking, and more — tracked with primary and secondary data. Not press releases, not summaries. Numbers with sources.

02

Legislative and regulatory analysis

Analysis of new and amended legislation as it is published. Plain-language explanation of what it means for reconstruction, investment, and service delivery.

03

Policymaker interviews

Primary interviews with ministers, senior officials, and reconstruction experts. First-person, on-the-record, and focused on the decisions that matter.

04

Political economy commentary

Analytical commentary on the economic, political, and institutional dynamics shaping Syria's reconstruction trajectory — written to inform decisions, not just describe events.

About The Monitor

Why The Syrian Reconstruction Monitor exists.

There is no shortage of analysis on Syria. But most of it is either too political to be operationally useful, too general to inform sector-level decisions, or locked behind institutional subscriptions that most people working on Syria cannot access.

The Monitor was designed to address all three problems. It is quantitative: every sector piece is built on data, with sources. It is focused: each issue covers a bounded set of sectors and legislative developments in depth, not breadth. And it is free: every issue is available to anyone on Substack, no subscription required.

  • Published on Substack at syrianmonitor.com

Free to read. Subscribe to receive new issues in your inbox.

  • Monthly cadence, sector rotation

Each issue covers four to six sectors in depth, rotating across Syria's reconstruction landscape.

  • One policymaker interview per issue

Primary, on-the-record interviews with ministers and senior officials — not secondary commentary.

  • Published by the Syria Advisory Group

An independent organisation with no commercial interests in Syria and no conflicting mandates.
